- Robert Louis Stevenson
i love really good novels. like... really good ones. i'm reading the time traveller's wife and i'm astounded at how knowledeable audrey niffenegger is on the history of art, literature and music. then again, she graduated with a B.F.A. & an M.F.A., so naturally (i guess), you would expect that of her.
ugh. sometimes i wonder how i would do in a different major. i know that there have been a couple of times i've considered computer programming, and then there was the dream of becoming a part-time author alongside my future career. the only reason why i took Comparitive Literature as my first year elective was because i love reading and writing. i mean look at me - i am planning to finish my fantasy novel at the current moment. i just wish that i had the vocabulary and talent to write books like this. i wish i knew the history of a lot of things and i wish i could block out everything else that's happening while i'm writing. well, i do....but i mean, after i'm done writing, it all comes back in a rush and then all of a sudden, i have a list of "things to do" before i can even think of the next time i'm going to start writing. how do authors like Rowling, Cabot, Brown and Niffenegger summon the discipline? can people with dreams of other careers write books like these?
*sigh.*
